This statement reflects one of two things...either you do not fish or dive OR you have not been to the keys
A hurricane is about the only thing that will make me leave the keys when I finally get down there lol

? I've done all three. I will never again voluntarily put myself in the position of shoveling snow, chipping ice on the sidewalk nor knocking down icicles.

Definitely not too late! And that's the greenhouse of my dreams. For a cold climate, being attached to the house is just a must, for me.
I am having a HORRIBLE time finding someone willing to build for me, without it costing an arm and two legs. I know I could go to one of the BigBoy contractors, but am also aware of their pricing. My attempts to get a qualified "handyman" type individual..they are all so busy they either don't have time to give a quote, or their phone's mailbox is full and I can't even leave a message. Very, very frustrating.
Right now I've put the screws to my VERY capable son in law and his friend, and almost resorted to begging. We'll see how that goes...
Seeing these pictures, I've gotten off my discouraged train and am back to full force regatta GOTTA!
My other thought was to have a five day "getaway" and all you folks who are still capable could just come and get 'er done for me.... And yeah, I'm talkin' to YOU!

i think we got our communication crossed- i was jokingly suggesting that I would not leave the Keys even though that greenhouse is amazing. I COMPLETELY agree that cold weather is NOT an option...never LOL
the fishing and diving comment is a joke about how the Ocean is the only reason anyone would ever choose to live in Florida LOL

Not enough of a reason for me. You can have it all to your self! Someone has to occupy Indiana. Which by the way, is not as ES remembers his weather in Minnesota. Now, Farley101 has weather stories.

I was lucky WW. I have friends (they are brothers) who had their own construction business at the time. I hired them and all 3 of their boys for 2 weeks during the summer (I took vacation time from work) and we just banged it out. If I had tried to do it myself I just can't imagine how screwed up it would have ended up.
To DC and others about me leaving that behind for the Keys....... NO BRAINER!!!!!!!!! I'm now growing in a shadehouse 2X that footprint at 1/100th the cost of operation. I only pay for water which used to be free. Oh, did I mention the "free" water was a consistent 42 degrees. Tropical plants don't like that! No fans, no motors, no vents, darn few bugs, and certainly no heating expense (which was NOT insignificant). 2 things I sweat now.......hurricanes and iguanas! If I had stayed up here full time I would have had to build a GH 10x that size and I literally would have moved into it for the winter.

I think wherever you live has benefits for you. Maybe as age changes or circumstances change you want to select another place. We have water here, it's called Lake Michigan salt free, shark free. I can't say I've traveled the world but I've traveled some, and I like home the best. And to end on a light note at my age it's much easier to put more clothes on than it is to take them off. And probably better for everybody else too.

So as not to hijack yet another thread... on a different thread DC, speaking of my greenhouse, asked:

Can't get a quote yet. One guy I contacted said he could "probably" get back with me first part of August. So far that's my best lead.
Another guy never got back a quote, because he can't get to building it until fall. Despite just wanting a number or ballpark from him, no replies.
Another guy kept asking for my number (a Craigslist-type search I put in). PM'd the number... never heard back.
Never had to beg for a quote or bid for anything before... it's been a strange summer.

Very interesting info on this thread as I am also thinking of a lean-to type greenhouse for my northeastern home. Have you considered Janco Greenhouses, Laurel, MD? Has anyone ever had experience with these? They seem like fine quality residential type greenhouses with a long history in business. I am also weighing idea of stick built sunroom vs. actual lean to greenhouse.
