Thanks Bayard. Good pics, and food for thought. I really like the BC Greenhouses, but pretty sure they're outside my price range. It's a lovely greenhouse.
And Akhenaten, nice sketch. I can't ever remember how to do that draw on a picture thing. Helps me to invision what I want.
After thinking about all Ray said, and getting over whining about being old, I've changed tacks a bit. I talked to the construction guy via my buddy (his brother) and I'm going to sketch out a greenhouse concept of what I really want, instead of what I can get in a kit. He mentioned it might be cheaper in the long run to stick build it. I do know how to design, even if I can't perform the work anymore.
Rest assured once I get started, I'll be back with more questions. This will be a big investment for me. And a part of my home, so I certainly don't want it to look like old dog poop.

And Hey Bayard... any idea how significant your heating bills increased with the greenhouse? I know it's apples to oranges. And what kind of heat are you using?
Anyone else want to chime in with heating costs, who lives in like zone 7 through 5? At least similar?

WW------ I'm still unpacking from my 31 hour drive back to NH for the summer but give me a day or two to see if I can find pics of the GH I had at our old house up here. If I find, I'll post for you, Very similar set-up. It was a kit purchased from Charley's.

WW. I had a 14' x 18' Turner Greenhouse in PA (similar latitude to Bayard) which I recovered with 8 mm twinwall polycarbonate. The floor was dug down about 2' below grade, then filled with gravel after running water, propane and electricity from the house, ~100 ft. The wooden foundation consisted of 4x4 posts with 1x10 planking over tyvek; the interior was filled with foam to the full 3.5" thickness. Height of that foundation varied from 6' above grade (front, right) to 4' (rear, left) courtesy of a sloped yard. The peak was about 10' in the air.
I sealed it very tight and put styrofoam covers over the vents for winter. I was on a 12-month budget payment for propane, about $350-$400/month depending upon the winter and cost of propane.

Is that propane cost solely for the greenhouse?

Do you have natural gas available? Should be less than half the heating cost using Propane.
