They were already painted white for that very reason. When I first moved here with a toddler and a kindergartner, I had the fantasy it would be a play room for the kids. And a great place to sit in the winter and watch the world go by.

Life happened. Who knew raising kids would make life so busy? And all the "stuff" one can accumulate must go somewhere... Thirty five years later, I finally have a play room and winter sitting room. The toys in the playroom have become my toys. And I think this winter is gonna be grand.

You are moving again? So will you dismantle your present balcony/greenhouse and take it with you? I would certainly presume so!

And is it a balcony where you will have to heat in winter? I need more details!

Next step... Flooring is laid, sink installed and drainage in place. Shelves hauled up from Batcave. Had to order four more boot trays. When in Batcave, bottom tier just drained onto the floor, so no need for trays on that level.

Facing south...

The south end will have shelving above sink level (not installed yet). The rain barrel came in, to be placed at southwest corner across from sink. It went right back outside when I discovered a big crack on side. Need to get other rain barrel, or repair the one I brought in.

Facing north...

Drain pipe going outside. Pours into a gutter that was already there (kind of like a scupper drain). Please don't notice the miter on molding. I'm trying to teach Bull In A China Shop the finer skills one can attain with a miter saw, but for world peace I had to leave the room during installation.

One of the tray drains, going into drainage pipe. Note that the pipe where it goes outside is at floor level, then note how high it is on south facing wall. Yes, the porch is that unlevel from end to end. One of the pleasures of a porch column setting in a very old house. That's an eight inch drop in 16 feet.

To be updated when I get orchids inside. Should have happened yesterday, but helper "forgot" to show up. I sure get better support and cooperation from friends than I do paying someone... but a necessary evil to avoid burning out friends.

What about putting a counter and cabinets around that sink so that you could pot over there?

Wow!!! Cool!!! Sewage, it's so convenient
But why don't you use a brick wall, for example for small blocks that need a little less light?

WW. Where did you get the boot trays? I’m going to need a couple soon.

No room on either side of sink. I have a small table coming in later that will go between sink and rain barrel. And a spot on far side of chimney you can't see in pictures for my potting bucket. Above sink will be a shelf to hold the RO equipment. I'm working on how I want to do the mister part, as it will be just for a select few.

I don't understand the brick wall part Akhenaten...??

I love PVC pipe. So many uses, so little time.

Gardners Supply. There seems to be a run on them, and of all the places looked they were the only place they had in stock, or at a totally ridiculous price. There's two slightly different sizes in the 4' x approx 20" sizes... look at both for your best fit. And ya better hurry before they run out again! I was amazed... not even my old water garden wholesalers had them. And some idiot on eBay is selling them for almost $60 each.
