I had to go to Arcadia for work and i figured i would swing by everyone's favorite big box supplier, Sun Bulb.

I went into the front office and was told that they only will do tours to prospective clients and by appointment and that even a large purchase for me was still not "wholesale"

i asked the very nice woman if i walked back to my car and put on my coat jacket and came back in and said I was a prospective client could i get a tour....this at least got a smile and she said she would walk me to the first couple of greenhouses but i couldn't take any pics and i happily took the chance.

I wish i could have set up a better lie to get an actual tour because this place is MASSIVE and so well put together and CLEAN. I only saw one actual growing house filled with about to be shipped out Dendrobiums in bloom or in late bud.....it had to be a 50' x 200' house and it was packed!!

I did a U-turn as i left and snapped this pic just for perspective...it is about as bad of a pic as i could have taken since it neither captures one of the greenhouse nor the entirety of the property for scale....sorry, i was driving lol

there appeared to be 30-40 greenhouses but there could have been more as i could not see the back of the property

i spoke to only two people there but they were very friendly and nice

Thank you for trying! So is this where all the bag babies at Home Depots in Florida come from?

nice! I miss the Sun bulb orchids. It was nice to find non phals at every Lowes around Atlanta, without paying a fortune.

Heck yeah, me too. They are a great way to find an exotic plant in good size for a decent price.

My local Lowe’s has a bunch the other day, but being of limited space and a more limited number of years yet to grow plants, I have to pass unless it’s something I really want.

I currently have a Cattleya hybrid and a Dendrobium spectabile that are blooming right now, and started out as orchids in a bag from Sun Bulb Co. I have generally been quite happy with plants they provide to retailers (I get mine at local Lowe's stores).

What year does your spectible have on the tag?

I also have one from there, pretty recent, and I wonder if they were siblings lol

I'm not sure. I've had it maybe 5 or 6 years? It bloomed once before when the pseudobulb was roughly 6 or 7 inches tall, they are not supposed to do that. The plant is at work right now, here's a not-so-great photo of it from last week:

If I can check the info on the tag I will, but that tag may be pretty solidly held in place by the roots.
