This is some type of residue from something that was sprayed. It could be salts from your fertilizer or insecticide/herbicide.

Thanks. That is what I assumed. It did come from the nursery with that. I don't foliar feed, so I hoped it would lessen over time, but it doesn't seem to have done so.

Unless the plant is outdoors and subject to wind & rain, its not just going to fade on its own. I would suggest a good gentle wipe down with a wet paper towel. This should eliminate a good amount, but not all residue. Multiple wipe downs over several weeks will help.
