When they actually get sun doesn't seem to be particularly important (mine get little or no direct sun until late spring and during the summer) But
look at the plant in the morning. They do seem to have a rhythm for displaying themselves. (There are others that do this too, some more extreme... I have a Stelis that I didn't observe open - wondered when it was going to - until one day I happened to go out and look at it around 7 AM and bingo... open. By 9:30, closed again, the next morning early, open...)
