Den. moniliforme
Usually the first of my moniliformes to bloom for the season. This one has huge blooms this year. I'll post a follow-up when all the buds are open.

Outstanding, Adam! I love this species and can easily understand why the Japanese are so crazy about the huge variety of cultivars. How many plants of monoliforme do you have? Do you grow them in NZ sphagnum, or in a different medium?

I have 12 or 13 of them, this one being one of the largest; most of the others are 8" or less. I grow all of them in sphagnum--they seem to do best in it, just as long as you remember to repot every 18 months or so.

They're very easy to grow Sue...I bet your husband could even tie one to one of the trees in the garden for a more authentic feel...they will take it down to 30F or so, and up to 100F on the flip side...

Sounds like the perfect chid for me!
The scary part is after I saw this, I went on New World's web site and found just how many different ones there are!
Ruh-roh...could be a whole new obsession for me!

I'll put up a pic of the whole plant when I next make it out to the GH...I'm sure that there will be more flowers open then as well.
