I bought this about three years ago, which came potted in medium pine bark mix. I re-potted as soon as I received into semi-hydro setup, for the bark was beginning to deteriorate and it was sending out new growths. Fortunately, it adapted quite well, and as you can see it, became one of my most successful plant.
In my setup, it sits on a shelf at the south-facing balcony window, with plenty light through double-pane glass (about 60% total sunlight passing through). During summer months, temperature is about 30°C day and 20°C night. During August, however, the temperature spikes and it can even reach 36°C during day and 28°C during night. Most cool-growing plants suffer horribly during August (I bring my Masdies into air-conditioned bedroom at night during this period), but my atroviolaceum does not seem to mind it.
And during winter days, temperature is 27°C at sunny days (thanks to the big south-facing window) or 18°C when cloudy; and night temperature is around 15°C, and occasionally reaching 12°C during harsh cold storms. A bit low for heat-loving plants, but again, my atro seems to do fine. It is quite adaptable.
I fertilize mine with Hyponex brand liquid fertilizer, diluted 2000:1, twice a month and flushing out with clean water a week after fertilizing it. Humidity is kept around 50~80%, and there's constant air movement thanks to a small fan I've installed overhead.
I've never run into problems while growing this. No bacterial/fungal infections, no serious insect infestations except occasional mealybugs which can be controlled quite easily.
Overall, I find atroviolaceum a very adaptable and easy to grow species. I recommend it to anyone trying Latouria dens.
