Dendrobium tortile--The Twisted Orchid

This plant was a gift from a member of my orchid society, in exchange for a maxillaria I gave him. Lucky me! I'd never seen or heard of this, but I love the twisted petals. It has a faint fragrance, too. My iPhone doesn't really do justice to the lavender veining in the throat of the bloom.

I love this species. My plant blooms on and off throughout the Summer, after a late Spring bonanza- Lots of water and it hangs in the garden for the warmer months. You may even be able to year 'round it in Benecia. 40°F seems to be no problem.

Thanks, Regelian, I'm glad to have that information. I had it inside last winter, but I will try outside under plastic this coming year.
