First, welcome. There are lots of orchid lovers happy help you out here. You should start a new thread (there's a button above the name of the forum where you can do that) so that more people will see it.
As far as pot vs. basket, it's just a matter of your growing conditions. The good part of using a basket is that it will dry out faster. If you can't get around to watering regularly, that's also the bad part. So if you can water a bit more frequently, the plant will probably really appreciate the extra air flow that a basket makes possible.
