I have been trying to get an ID on this flower for a coulpe of years now! The show judges think its a species, not a hybrid. I've been looking at some of Yamamoto's flowers and he has a few similar but not the same. Any ideas? It tends to only flower from the top 3rd of the cane, but that could just be my bad culture of it. the canes are quite thin too.
Very pretty. Similar to something I have but not exact. You may have to live with NOID. It does look like one of the Aussie hybrids though. Sorry I'm not to helpful.
Have you considered looking through the species at IOSPE?
Your beautiful plant is probably a species, or hybrid of species, from the Dendrobium nobile group, Dendrobium section Dendrobium. There are quite a few species. If you find something close, talk about it with Dendrobium experts near you.

I thought softcane referred to Dendrobium nobile hybrids, and hardcane to D. phalaenopsis hybrids? The plant and flowers look to me like a Dendrobium section Dendrobium species or hybrid.
This is an example of why such terms are confusing. D. nobile and D. phalaenopsis types grown well both have hard pseudobulbs.
