Default Dendrobium amabile

This is Dendrobium amabile. I've had this plant since 2006 or 2007, I believe. I don't remember. This year's blooms have been fantastic! I got 7 flower spikes this year. One of the spikes broke due to the plant falling over when we experienced some high winds. It finished blooming already, but I figured I'd post about it anyways. I grow this outdoors year round. It is winter dormant, and grows during the spring through mid-fall.

Photos were taken May, 3, 2017; May 6, 2017; and May 9, 2017 respectively.

Wow! That's fantastic; I'm putting it on my list. What are your low temperature extremes?

Extreme temperature lows are 36 F, but this is rare. On average, it is more around 40 F - 45 F. I keep it on the porch though. It is protected to some degree from frost. These are winter lows, btw.

This species grows kinda slow.

The longest cane is between 26.25" to 26.5" (2' 2.25" to 2' 2.5"/66.68 cm to 67.31 cm) long. I just measured this with a ruler.

One of the larger leaves is about 3.03" to 3.07" (7.7 cm - 7.8 cm) in width at the widest portion of the leaf, and is 6" (15.24 cm) long. This measurement was also measured with a ruler.

Since the spike is gone right now, the following measurement might not be precise, but it is quite safe to say that one of those spikes is at least 1' (30.48 cm) long.

Each individual flower is probably on the order of being between 1.25" - 1.5" (3.18 cm - 3.81 cm) across. The measurement of the flower size is also an approximation since I have no flowers to measure at the moment.

I forgot to mention this prior...

This plant does have a dormancy, but it does not go deciduous.

Thanks for the detailed info. It's quite impressive at this scale! I easily forget that with time, many orchids can become very large.
