Spots on Den leaves and cane

Recently transplanted this Den (week or so ago), and now I've noticed it's starting to get some yellowing, wrinkling and spots on the leaves of the older canes (newer canes are still nice and green). One of the older canes has this strange black spot on it - anyone know what's going on? Is this a normal process for the older canes to loose their leaves? Or is it just upset because of the transplant? This is apparently a den/phal hybrid of some sort.

I know it's not getting enough light, but it wasn't getting enough before I brought it home to transplant either. Supposed to be giving it back soon, but don't want to give it back all spotty and yellow!

Frank, sorry that I don't have an answer for you, however I hope someone does. I purchased a Den/Phal Hybrid much like yours about 2 months ago. I immediately transplanted it because it was getting root rot from being over-watered at the store. Anyway, since then it has done exactly the same thing that yours has. It still seems to be alive, though it is still dropping leaves slowly. Hopefully in the next few months it will show signs of thriving and not dying!

Not sure Frank, i wouldn't be too worried about occasional small black spots, i have many and they don't seem to be a problem. When you transplant, the plant will inevitably go into shock for a while, during which time it will often drop the oldest leaves. Even without transplanting, this is normal for old canes/bulbs to drop their leaves eventually.

Black spots could be burned spots caused by water on the leaves during hot, sunny days. They could also be a fungus, but i'd only hit them with fungacide if the spots grew substantially. To me it looks like all the marks are general stress/sunburn/coldburn/dryness.

Check the conditions you have and try to achieve high humidity, good airflow and strong, but protected light.

Thanks! I just moved the den and my cym under my 430w hps, with fogger and fan... so will see how they do in the next couple days. The den dropped 2 leaves today, with a couple more to follow soon I think. I see a new baby cane coming out of the bottom of one old cane, so hopefully all is well - need to stop worrying so much about these things!
