Terminal leaf identification Male
Default Terminal leaf identification

Hello everybody! Ive got only one year with two dendrobiums and I still cant get a full grasp of how to determine the rest period for them; Ive read that a terminal leaf must appear to pinpoint the time the plant stops growing andv should start its rest period, but I havent seen a clear pic of how this terminal leaf looks like. I would really appreciate if someone could give some feedback from the leafs I currently have in two diferrent plants. Also if someone could help with some tips on how to determine which group a drendro belongs to (when you dont have flowers) it will be greatly apreciated
Thanks in advance!

The terminal leaf doesn't look necessarily different from other leaves. You just need to notice that the cane has stopped growing and no further leaves are appearing. There's no need to rush a rest period until you're certain your cane is done growing. e.g. picture 1 is a mature cane. picture 2 is still growing.

In terms of determining group without flowers, there are some that have characteristic features (e.g. the latouria, formosae) but yours are ambiguous. Could be in the dendrobium section (e.g. nobile) but could also be phalaenanthe or a number of other sections.

Hope that helps

Thank you for answering Calvin, I am really surprised to read that the 1st picture is a mature cane, Its actually a keiki that came out of another keiki which was already growing when I brought it and thought that because of the stress from moving got hold back... Now that leaves me another question with this mature keiki, its roots look fine and are active (green tips) and I thought active roots meant active growing, or this doesn't apply for dendros?...
