Does anyone grow Den. limpidum?
Default Does anyone grow Den. limpidum?

I saw someone with it and was wondering what conditions it liked, how big it got, and if it flowered on old canes for a few years after they lose their leaves like other similar dendrobium.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have had my den. limpidum for about a year and a half now. I got it from Andy's orchids and I generally follow his culture recommendations. He recommends keeping it fairly moist and Phal type light. I dont give it any sort of winter rest and I got it to bloom this last year. I can't comment as to whether it blooms on old canes though since I havent had it for long enough. Mine is till not that large with only ~3 inch canes at this point (not sure how large they truly get though). Hope this helps some. It is a pretty cool looking little plant!!!

This is a great species. I got mine from Andy's too. It's one of the limited number of papua new guinea dens that can handle heat without too much problems, although it should handle too many weeks in the 90's... I used to grew it in one of my tanks inside but was tipped that it does better outside where it can dip lower in temps at night, this helps fatten their pbulbs... flowers better with temp drops at night too. Medium light is good, but can grow in phal light, mounted and watered a lot with clean distilled or R/O water... mine only flowers in summer, but the species is known to flower whenever it feels like it. It can flower on old leafless pbs as well as newer ones with leaves. Mine's a young plant but hoping for more flowers as I perfect it's culture...

There are similarities to dichaeoides classification confusion with those two. Information on it is easily found with a search, but either one is grown the same. Dichaeoides is a longer more pendulous grower (6-8 in/ 13-15cm growths), limpidum is shorter growing one but still can over time form a sizable clump (4-5 in/ 10-13cm growths). They can grow new pbs along older pbs as well.

Very interesting, thank you both for your input, it honestly sounds like I may want this more than I originally thought lol
By fairly moist, would you mean a never dry type of situation or? Do you water yours with distilled/ RO water as well Orion?
A 4-5 inch pendulous Den sounds perfect haha, I've been wanting one for a while but don't have the space for the regular ones lol

I tend not to let this orchid really ever dry out. I haven't been using RO/distilled water (although I just purchased an RO system so I will be using that soon). I just use tap water, except 1-2 times per week I use a weak fertilizer solution.
