This is how I grow my one, also without any spagnum. I got it now for a couple of months. First it lost about half of his leaves but now it has stabilized and I see new growth coming. It didn't flower yet..
I give it high light (2500 FC) and high humidity and I am still keeping it fairly dry because of winter rest. I didn't give any fertilizer yet. The winter temperature I am keeping it now is 10-13C to 23 C (55-75 F)
