When discussing hybrids without a specific name, the vendor probably wants an idea of genetic background to narrow down from thousands. D. bigibbum is the background species. Or more genericly, ask about the section.

I usually just go through the websites of Vendors and I find quite a few Dendrobiums but they are nearly always either from the Latouria or nobile groups. It is not as easy to find the ones with Den. bigibbum in the background unless you look at Carmela's website. Some of the beautiful older varieties with the large, flat, Phal-type blossoms seem to have vanished, sadly. It may be that many hobbiests prefer the other types of Dendrobiums and the local florists are now using Phals as they have become cheaper due to the mass production and internet. No idea.
