I let nature tell me when to start- usually between Halloween and Thanksgiving; when the rains stop and nights drop to the 60s. I grow outside, so weather conditions do drastically affect my growing.
I've never grown miyakei, kept pierrardi and primulinum for years along with nobile hybrids, and they bloomed and grew well until a particularly harsh winter did most in. Currently have anosmum grown from seed and a species nobile as well as hybrid nobiles, it seems to work just as well for them.
