Den Phal weird re-blooms

This NOID actually had a tag but I bought it before I knew I was supposed to keep them The flowers are solid purple. After I bought it last spring the leaves started dropping off all the old canes. We struggled a lot but finally it is doing well. It grew a brand new cane and put out a spike! However, it also put out a spike on an old cane and produced a keiki on last year's cane which is now in bud. I didn't think den phals re-bloomed from old canes and I really didn't think keikis were supposed to bloom. I think it is a keiki because it has a root.

Is this normal or does it in anyway help identify what the plant is? I know its a dendrobium (I remember that much from the tag) and I am assuming it is a den phal.

Keikis producing spikes isn't particularly rare, but it looks like in this case the keiki barely got started then proceeded directly to a spike. Think of it as the plant being so enthusiastic about blooming that it changed its mind. I'm not sure if it will continue to develop as a keiki or not. Only time will tell and no harm in leaving there to see.

It does appear to be a den phal, but some do have mixed ancestry. Without open flowers it is hard to tell.

I'm glad it's excited to bloom. I feel the same way. Here is a photo of its blooms from last year. I don't think they are the best blooms because I really struggled keeping it happy (I bought it in spike)
