Question Unsure of dendrobium hybrid yellowing and leaf loss

Hi, this is my first time growing dendrobium hybrids and I just started growing orchids back in February of this year. I had recently purchased a dendrobium hybrid, pink puff, online. When I had received my orchid it had suffered from a small bit of heat stress and some of the leaves started to yellow and fall off. The reason I’m posting about this is because the leaves started to yellow from what I would assume was the newest leaf at the top the largest cane. The next day the yellowing top leaf fell off and the bottom leaf started yellowing as well. There is a also a small cane that lost two bottom leaves from the heat stress. The largest cane with the flower spike also has a small bump at the base of the flower spike that I think might produce something. I was worried and checked the roots and they were fine but I found two canes that were cut before I had purchased the plant and buried under the growing media. In the first image the red circles indicate where the leaves fell off. The second image shows the yellowing bottom leaf on the largest cane with the flower spike. The third image shows the possible new growth at the base of the flower spike. Should I remove the two old canes that were buried under the media? Should I also cut the flower spike, and is there any hope for it to recover? I would also appreciate any information on how to grow this type of hybrid.

Thank you for the help.

Hi Dendrobium Pink Puff does not appear at this stage on any plant register. If you can find out what the Hybrids behind it are makes it easier to provide advice.
Pink Puff may even be a cultivar name.
By the shape of the flower it could be suggested this is a warm grower. The lower leafs tend to yellow as the plant grows. I would only cut the flower spike off once the last flower drops some times these spike will form a kiki and you gain another plant. Good luck.

I'll definitely try to find out the background of this hybrid. The webpage for the store I bought it from gives very little information about this hybrid. However, from I could figure out about this hybrid is that it's a dendrobium phalaenopsis type. I was also wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the old cut canes that were buried under the growing media? Thank you for the help, I truly appreciate the information and help.

Hi Matt! If the old canes are brown, they can be removed. If they are still green and firm, even though they may be below the top of the medium, I would leave them as is. I'm a believer in always leaving green where it is.

They are brown and looked soft and old with no real substance, like they were left that way for a very long time. I totally agree with what you said. Thank you all for the help, I truly appreciate it. =)
