Really pretty. How long does the fragrance last, and what does it smell like? Also do you have any culture tips?

Thanks for looking.
Linda, blooms of some plants emit fragrance all days round but this one, is only fragrant when it is sunny. The odor is not easy to described, but much like that of Den. superbum and also somewhat like almond.
Culture for the plant is the same for Den. nobile or other soft-cane dendrobiums. Strong sunlight and a dry period in winter are needed to bloom it.

Ok, I have a some questions for anyone who grows this den. I got it at a society meeting last sept as a raffle plant. When I got home and did my hmwk I found that it needed a dry rest and was supposed to be deciduous. So before xmas i slowed down the watering...gradually down to a once a month quick shower. All the old canes started to turn brown/yellow and die off and the leaves wouldn't yellow and fall off last years growth. A few people have told me to BURN it in the summer sun and then let it get nipped by a light frost in the fall. Both of these kinda scare me. Dens usually commit suicide on my watch and I don't wanna give this little fella a reason. As of right now Im back to a regular watering 2x a week. Ive accidently knocked it off the shelf and all over the floor twice now. Almost thinking I should try mounting it (its currently in its plastic pot with medium bark as it came). And to my suprise this morning I noticed some new growth. This plant is totally confusing me. HELP! What do I need to do to make him happy???

I don't have this one but I do have anosmum (superbum) and I start the dry down in late October. No water. No fertilizer. Full sun in south window. The leaves should start to yellow within a week of withholding water. Up till point I had been watering daily. That should be enough of a shock to initiate dormancy. My anosmum is indoors all year. No winter shock except when the heating season comes. I keep the thermostat at 62 at night and 67 day. They will iniate buds all by themselves when ready, usually around early march. Once buds are 1/2"-3/4" long I resume full daily watering. Also the new green growths should have started at base of dry stalks.
