Amabile, no blooms this spring Male
Default Amabile, no blooms this spring

I have a dendrobium Amabile that didn't bloom this year, maybe still time but don't think so. Grew 4 canes last summer and now 2 canes new mature canes this spring. Looks healthy with lots of folage, canes straight, over the winter kept moist in moss not wet with no signs of overwatering. It stays outdoors even through winter except extreme cold, sunlight always short of sunburn, cut back on food in winter but did bloom boost past couple months. I have pulled a search and seems I cared correctly for it, also read they can be testy.
My area is NW Florida, perhaps too hot too soon, other than that I am clueless, where did I go wrong

Not in my care, purchased it about 13 months ago with several others from a grower, all others have bloomed so I have faith in the grower. When it arrived looked as though it had fresh cuts on 2 canes so I assume spring bloom was over. I have noticed canes sometimes take on a yellowish tint but the foliage is healthy other than usual wear from growing outdoors. Roots are growing out of the net basket and now has about 10 canes, time to repot but has never lost a single leaf.

From what the web shows, it looks like my Den. farmeri (Pink form).
If it is the same plant or family, you need to "abuse" it a little more in the winter.
I winter mine outside in So. California. Dry! Water may be once a couple of weeks if no rain or wait even longer if there is rain. My min. winter temp. drops down to 50 some times a degree or two less.
It flowers on cue every august for me and puts out growths, very fast, after that.

Thanks for responding flexdc. I did try to abuse with cold Temps in low 40s. but. temps below that I put it in my vanda box which I keep around 55 degrees. Maybe the warmer box had an effect I'm clueless. All I can do is move ahead, repot and wait for next spring
