Yes, this is a super Dendrobium. I have one too. Mine has a couple of stalks and one of them has been growing a flower spike. But it sure has taken a lot of time. It might open by the weekend.
How do you grow your plant, Optimist?

LOL! Sad to say, I just got it! My plan is to grow it in the shade house. It gets high almost direct light like other dendrobiums. The small size makes me worry about light, but it can take it. It came from an outdoor greenhouse in Florida. I am in a high sunshine state in NM. I will water it lots! My outdoor plants usually get daily watering till I bring them in, in November.

Ughhhh. Everyone's getting one. I want one. I skipped out on one last year and I'm hoping the same vendor has it this year in his open house... otherwise.... Hausermann it is! or depending on which side of the wallet you stand on.

I was happy to see it because I had just wached Astrid's little program on her Trantuanii, and I thought it was extreemly nice. I loved the idea that it had a bug like hinged part to the throat.
Care-wise, it needs bright indirect light. My shade house is getting 40% shade cloth this year. The orchids are usually watered every day.
It wasn't that expensive. Near 20$ US

yes, love this species... funny that you say that theloyalplum, seems like everyone started carrying overnight, too... but I've resisted so far, perhaps that and the lindleyii, very sooon... lol
optimist, you're in New Mexico, so it must be fairly dry over there I'm assuming? and you grow in a shade house? that mean your growing area is subjected to varying if not low humidity most of year? Has this den handled that?

Yeah. I've seen it a lot more available recently. It's kinda like the Phal. bellina on last year!

I only just got it. New Mexico runs a bit like Brazil. We have monsoon season, and then the dry season. The plants are watered 2X per day in the growing season. 3 times in the summer mainly. The outside space is mainly for the cattleyas. I am getting more traditional shade for the shade house this year, and I am thinking of getting a small pool (Like a cattle trough) for water inside the shade house which will raise the ambient humidity some. (I have pond/swamp plants too, but I do not want to commit to a pond.) The area I am in is very closed in, and has a micro environment many degrees cooler than more open areas. It also is in shade most of the time. Since plants in bark dry out quickly here, I usually pot them in small bark, not big chunks as everyone else seems to. And inside the house, when I first got here it was about 2% humidity, and I have worked at it until I am up to 50% most days. I have several self enclosed terrariums for plants needing more humidity, which have lights over them (or are near windows). Right now, actually my Roths and Masdevellias are in them, so there is a back up plan. I wonder how Arizona gardeners grow outside? Good question!
