Dendrobium spectabile, finally bloomed!!
I bought this at an orchid show about 5 years ago. Every year it struggled and never bloomed, last year I thought I saw a bloom spike but it aborted. Well now it has at last bloomed, one spike of flowers open another still developing. Dang, strange looking critters, almost expect them to bite

Well, 5 years..Probably you bought it while it was a seedling, right? I've got one two years ago, next winter it should reach the right age to bloom, but probably it won't. What temperature do you give to yours? How big are the flowers?

Last year, I parked this orchid out on the patio from mid-April through early November where it got bright light most of the day, direct sun for 3-4 hours. That seemed to do the trick. I've read they really need bright light.
I mentioned I have had this for at least 5 years, it was a large seedling when I got it, not too much small than what you see here - it hasn't really grow that big for me, struggled for a few years but kept putting out new canes. And as to the question about size of the flowers, I have average sized hands, you can see my fingers holding up the flowers to give an idea of size.
