Dendrobium aberrans is in bloom - and growing upside down?

My mounted Dendrobium aberrans is flowering. I've read that the blooms can be fragrant, but so far these are not. They look very nice though!

I'm wondering if anyone with experience with this species might know what's going on in the last photo. A week ago I saw a green tip poking out from underneath the sphagnum and was glad to see that the roots were growing well. But then, as I observed it over the coming days, I realized that it was actually a leaf! Should I unmount it to set it free or just see what happens?

From my experience with this type of situation you could just let it go, but remove what ever has blocked its proper growth.
That is what I usually do.
From the pics it is mounted in a sphagnum moss on the bark mount.
You could try wetting the moss to soften it.
Then, gingerly pry the moss away being careful that you don't damage any good healthy roots or the new growth.
It is possible that you can free it up.
But, chances are that it is already misshapen and there isn't much you can do about it. It may never make up what it has lost due to being buried and malformed.
I had this happen with a D. farmeri based hybrid I have mounted on one of our driveway palms. The twine I used to tie it to the tree blocked its growth.
The good thing about it is that the plant ended up sending out several other new growths from the same area.

D. aberans is a cute little latouria section Dendrobium.
I have had one, but do not have one now.
I do have an aberans / johnsoniae hybrid that is nearing the end of being in bloom for what seems to be near to 4 months or more.
Its flowers are similar to aberans, but larger, on 6 to 8", typically latourian spindle shaped PBs.
They have bloomed multiple times from each PB in this blooming period.
They aren't fragrant, as my aberans wasn't, but do give an impressive floral display for an extended time period.
I did not take pictures of it and it is too far past its prime to warrant any now.

Here is a pic of the growth on my Den. farmerii X Den. Mousmee that was inadvertently tied down.
It has never fully recovered.


This is the Den. aberans X Den. johnsoniae.

I was wrong, the flowers look like a cross between aberans and johnsoniae.

I'm waiting for it to finish blooming, so that I can mount it somewhere.
