Unfortunate, Jay´s orchid site do not always do enough research before publishing, it seams. There are quit alot of less accurate information on that (and other sites). All unicum´s I have seen have lost their leaves during rest.
A friend of mine that is in to Lycaste says that he more or less never consult Jay´s on lycaste anymore. He just get to upset......

OK, so I am starting to question whether what I have is unicum.... mine is SO big compared to your two... The tallest cane on mine is about 8 inches tall?? The next largest one is only about a third of the size. The large one has 6 nubbins, the small one has 4, there are two other really, really short canes - but nothing coming from them...

Magnus, I appreciate your comments. I don't, necessarily, rely on that site since it is primarily one person's effort. But he does have some pretty accurate info, for the most part. So how do you determine that this plant may be deciduous or partly deciduous? Reason I ask, is I seem to be able to grow and flower deciduous Dendrobiums better than any of the others. I'd like to hear this is a Type 1 or Type 2 Dendrobium.

Hmmm. .. so what is the cycle?

New growth with leaf. . .blooms. . .drops leaves.

If so, then the new growth with leaves is the one that will bloom next time and the other canes, just store water and nutrients for the next new growth?

Sure IS big. . .bigger than I would expect. I guess you're gonna have to bloom it to find out.

When I got it in December, it had 4 leaves. It lost the last one about a week ago. I gave it a hard winter rest: misting just enough to keep the bulbs from shriveling. I have increased watering gradually as the buds mature, but still on the dry side until I see new growth.

Both of the canes have nubbins - the ones one the leafless cane are more developed. But I should see blooms on both of them, so I'll see in the next month, I guess, just what the flowers look like.

I'm still not sure, Gwen. Both the cane that dropped all of its leaves and the cane that still has leaves both appear to be going to flower. The ones on the leafless cane are more developed and each spike looks like its going to have two or three flowers. The cane with leaves still has nubbins, its too early to tell whether they are going to be the same.

TikiGeorge: Mine didn't really get a winter's rest. . .didn't know I was suppose to until it was too late. lol It did get a little rest but certainly not enough to drop its leaves. Maybe that's why I still have those leaves on the budding cane?

Moogie: I should give it a rest after it blooms? Or only in the fall/winter?

I am only seeing one new growth this year. . .suppose that is typical? If so, then my little plant is only about four years old. The first "canes" were tiny. And really the largest cane (the one with the buds on it now) is really the only cane large enough to have room for buds. So maybe this is it's first blooming?

Fact or fiction?

I can't wait to see what you get!

All my buds are one shot wonders. I don't see any spikes with multiple buds but I don't know if that means that yours is not a unicum or not.

The pictures that you all are posting are the only unicums I've ever seen! So I am just taking note of the differences.
