I have a nigrohirsute that is a cross between group IV & V. It has cruentum and formosae in it's parentage. I grow it as a group V and it's going nuts, blooms all over the place.

I don't grow this myself, but Dendrobium and its Relatives says that it grows in a wide range of conditions: intermediate to cool conditions (not dropping below 2C), and plenty of water in spring/summer with a drier winter rest. Light can range from full sun to semi-shade. The book recommends a course medium if grown in a pot, but it can be mounted.

Apparently, it is more commonly found as a lithophyte in its natural habitat.
