If you're talking about that last photo that was posted, it's not a Dendrobium. It's Zygopetalum or more likely a Zygopetalum alliance intergeneric hybrid.

Oh my gosh. I got it from trader Joe's the tag read dendrobium nobile. The plastic wrap around the orchid read "exotic orchid" It was hard to get trader Joe's had a lot. Thanks

That is not a Dendrobium. MrHappyRotter is correct. That is a Zygo of some sort. Care is vastly different!

I agree it's a Zygopetalum hybrid, which should do really well for you in Oregon. They love cooler weather. If you use the maroon menu at the top of the page to search on Zygopetalum care you will find lots of threads.

It's best when taking photos to shoot with the window off to the side, or behind the camera, rather than shooting into the window. If the window is behind the photographer, take care you or the camera doesn't cast a shadow on the plant.

Thank you, I really value this website and the wealth of knowledge that come from it. Like you😀 I do live in Medford Oregon s.w. part of the state. Our summers are extremely hot 100+ last summer we Oregonians were ravished by wildfires from the cal border to WWashington. Our aqi (air quality index) stayed for weeks well over 300 which is considered hazardous. I pray we don't repeat. Could conditions be deadly to my girls? I will check out what you said. I just got where I could pronounce dendrobium lol

What group do the Australian dens like delicatum and kingianum fall into? Group 5 or 6? My favorite orchid that I own is some noid hybrid cross between the two and it is getting so large now. It has grown immensely in the last 6 months. I can't wait until it re-blooms this late winter.

Leaves on those orchids stay on the plant regardless of seasonal changes. The only time they drop is due to old age. Older canes can be completely barren of leaves.

During the winter, they appreciate a reduction in water, but they do not really stop growing.

It is warm in the summers and cool in the winters where they naturally grow.

Dendrobium kingianum grows on granite boulders in the wild. Dendrobium delicatum and Dendrobium speciosum are also lithophytes, but may also be epiphytes growing on trees.
