Some where I read they need to be on the dry side when in growth. I am going to try this if and when it decides to grow a new leaf. Any one else heard of this?

No I have not heard of that, I have heard that they should not dry out. My buds look like they may be blooming soon.

I bought one of these in April and it's been s l o w l y making what look like flower buds. The anticipation for them to bloom is terrible. It's labeled Den. laevifolium aureum x Den. laevifolium First Batch so I'm guessing it might not be the usual pink.
It's in sphagnum so it stays pretty damp for quite a while after I water it, and I never let it get actually dry. A couple of its leaves have also grown quite a bit since I got it, though they seem to have stopped getting bigger for several weeks now.

Yes those are buds but indeed they open very slow. I'm still waiting for my other buds to open up.

My plant didn't look right, so I unpotted it. All the roots look good, and the long fiber sphagnum is good, but there is only one pseudobulb that is not clearly dead and mushy at the base.
The only thing I can think of is that it might have gotten too hot. Before I got my evaporative cooler in June it spent a few days in the vicinity of 100 F / 38C with humidity in the range 40%-60%. It was around 80 F / 26C at night during this period. It lost some leaves and didn't look happy.
The last few weeks it's been around 80 F / 26C most of the time, day and night, with humidity around 70% most of the time.

I always keep the moss down away from the p.bulbs and just keep it on the roots for that very reason. I think the p.bulbs can rot easily. I have mine in live moss but I make sure it stays down. Mine are coming close to bloom.

es sorry too ear about that. I can't make any guesses. Wintergirl yours looks so good with all the leaves and all. I still have not gotten a new picture of mine but all the blooms are open. It looks funny without any leaves.
