Mine was most unhappy during the summer and when I forgot to water it. It was in my coolest room, but still in the 80s F / 26-32C day and night. It's also a low-light plant as far as I can tell from reading, and in habitat it is probably never completely dry.
One of the places it comes from is Vanuatu, up in the mountains. IOSPE says it is from a number of islands in the Pacific at elevations from 650 to 2400 meters / 2100' - 7800' above sea level. It will be very cool all the time at the top of that range, and never hot at the low end, with much cooler nights throughout that range. I would not be surprised to find night temperatures at those elevations in the 40s F / 4-9C. I posted this link before:
Vanuatu Climate
If you click on Home on this page, you will see the forecast for today. The temperatures quoted are for the villages, generally near sea level. It is a lot cooler day and night in the mountains, at least 10 degrees F / 5C, and there will be plentiful dew most every night.
My plant has been in my sunroom since late fall. Lately, it has experienced a few days into the mid 90s F / 35C, but the following nights were always into the low 70s F / 22C. It has not seemed unhappy at all. I think the difference is the lower temperatures at night now, which it didn't have last summer inside the house. I have moved the plant into the house because our day and night temperatures will soon start climbing into Hades territory.
Up in this thread is a lot of information from katrina and wintergirl about how they grow it in a cold winter / warm humid summer climate.
