Default Dendrobium victoria-reginae

Dendrobium victoria-reginae is fast becoming one of my favorite orchids!

I fell in love with it when Sonya (WhiteRabbit) posted photos of hers last September, an it went onto the wishlist. A few weeks later I was at a show, and found it there, but made the agonizing choice to pass on it because of the price. The next day I ordered a much cheaper one from my favorite grower (because you know, I hadn't spent enough money on orchids the day before!).

I kept it in a sunny window all winter, no proper rest other than a reduction in watering that most of my orchids get anyway. And to my surprise, it started blooming on 2 canes a month ago! The first one is spent now, but this is the second one. The flowers on mine are more purple than blue, compared to some plants I've seen in person. The plant seems happy, it's growing 3 new canes now!

This one is much much easier to bloom than anosmum (not so strict a winter rest). Just saying....

Nope, at least none that I could detect!

A few more buds opened today (and I removed those dead flowers that I didn't notice until I was processing the photos) so I may take some more photos soon.
