Den tetragonum Male
Default Den tetragonum

Towards the end of the NJOS show in 2014, I noticed that Piping Rock had a Den tetragonum. I didn't know anything about it, other than it is used in 'Aussie' Dendrobium breeding.

That was good enough for me, so it came home with me. It bloomed last year, but I did not have the camera with me that day. It is in bloom now, again with a single flower on a smallish plant.

Very pretty!! Amazing how the flower is as tall as the plant!! I have 2 of these now (though it's the var. gigantea). My first one grew bloomed, put out some new canes, and then dropped all it's leaves last summer and has just been sitting there and sulking since then. Roots are fine, but it refuses to grow. So I got another, hoping it doesn't do the same!
