Dendrobium nobile - Flowers last one week only Male
Default Dendrobium nobile - Flowers last one week only

Hello, my friends

I have a Dendrobium nobile and I noticed the flowers, when bloomed, last for one week only (two weeks, the maximum). Is this normal?

I'm asking this because when I bought it, it was full of flowers and they last for 3 weeks / one month.
I have it for almost two years, it seems to be growing normaly, it's now on the 2nd blooming season in under my care.

Thank you

What are the temperatures? How often do you water?

Well, in winter it's around 12~15ºC, now it's around 22ºC, in summer 24 to 28ºC (no sun, just light from a northern window). Now I'm watering once per week, in summer I double or triple it.

With the warmer temps, it might need water more often. I don't know if that's what caused the blooms to drop early, tho. How do the canes look (have they shriveled excessively?)

They seem normal to me. Take a look for yourself...

Those dried flowers last 3 days only. All the others are almost one week. I don't know how much time they will be there.

Well, one thing might be the cause...air conditioner. Not in use for now but I used it until two weeks ago (when I say I used it, it was only for half an hour to increase the temp). Not too much time using it but it might be enough to cause this.

Update this year flowers last for almost 2 months...I still have a few but not for long.
Also the purpose of my update is to show you the 3 new canes that are growing...usually it's only one but this year I have 3...I can imagine next spring lots of flowers...and pictures too.

Usually, what I do, is to turn the pot so that the news canes, following the light source, twist themselves making an helicoil twist around the oldercanes. This is to stabilize the plant and pot.
