What are they?
Default What are they?

I just rescued five orchids from Safeway. Im trying to figure out what they all are and how to best care for them, special needs ect.
I know that one is a Colmanara "Jungle Monarch".
The second, third and fourth are Dendroniums and either "Hiang Beauty", "Sampran Tricolor" or "Burana Pink" but I dont know which belongs to which!
And the fifth? It comes from Rocket Farms but has no name.
Any ideas? Thanks, Morgan!

The fifth is a Phalaeonopsis. Hard to say which one exactly as there are sooo many different hybrids out there that look alike. Phals like warm to intermediate temps, and not so bright light, though I'm growing mine brighter than most. Overwater is then #1 killer of these guys. They get root rot pretty easily. Put a bamboo skewer down in the middle of the pot and leave it there. When you think it's time to water pull it out and touch it to your wrist. If it's cool to the touch wait a day to water.

Colmanara (now renamed Odontocidium ) is in the Oncidium alliance and likes bright light, intermediate temps and regular water and feeding. They don't like to dry out completely. I have a Colmanara Wildcat 'Carmela' that gets watered twice a week even in the winter.

Dendros also like high light. Yours look like phal type dendrobiums. They like to be grown in warm to intermediate temps, regular water and feeding. They object to being moved around. Once you find a spot they seem to like leave them there. Many say that dens don't like being repotted. That has not been my experience. I repotted two in the middle of summer and they are both in bud right now.

I think #3 is Burana Pink. I have a Burana Stripe; the flowers have the same colors, except mine has stripes instead of blotches of color. It's a very easy plant to grow, just be careful not to overwater it in winter. It should be putting out a new growth in spring. If you can put your den's outside when the temperatures are warm, they'll love it. Just make sure the plants aren't in full sun, because the sun will literally scorch a hole through the leaves.

If you have pics of #4 in full bloom, please post them. I can't tell what the colors are because it's in bud.
