Den. Delicatum?

Hello folks!

Last week at the Philadelphia Flower Show, I purchased a few new orchids. One of which I could literally smell from 100 feet away. So I circled the booth of Waldor Orchids until the scent became more intense and I ultimately discovered it was coming from this adorable little Den. which was labeled Den. Delicatum (Species). I've been trying to research it for a few days now to gain some insight on its care and culture—every search for this name comes up with a totally different looking Den.

Question—

Can anyone share some information about what I've got here, and/or offer some care/culture tips, as well as maybe some info about yours if you have the same one in your collection?

I never heard of this one, but it looks and sounds like a great find.
Slowly circling around until you find the source of the scent, thats what male moths do in search of female.

Perhaps the label should read, Dendrobium x delicatum. It is a natural hybrid between D. kingianum and D. tarberi. I saw this on the IOSPE website. There is another thread on this forum from a few weeks ago about this plant. Check it out.

Den kingianum care.

xdelicatum is the naturally occuring hybrid of kingianum and what was known as tarberi, but tarberi has been reclassified as a variety of speciosum. When the cross is man-made, it is written as on your tag (Delicatum).

I have both kingianum and specio-kingianum - bright light; water before media is completely dry, but can be grown a bit drier in winter; Cool night temps late summer/fall.

There will be conflicting advice regarding water in winter - many saying to give it a dry winter. I water (and fertilize) year-round, and have had excellent bloomings. Mine also start to initiate spikes (nodes swelling) by early autumn, and are growing the spikes through winter, so I'd hate to be withholding water when spikes are growing! (My kingianum has just started to open some blooms now; specio-kingianum has lots of buds on it, that will begin to open pretty soon).

These are very temperature tolerant.

I find this is one of those orchids you can almost put anywhere. I have one in a hanging basket from a tree with filtered light and it only gets watered when it rains its doing well. I have another in an intermediate temp house which is also doing well the big difference being the one in the House is easier to take to shows the one in the basket is around 2 foot in Dia. and still growing but when in flower both look pretty good.
