Default Dendrobium kieki

I have a Dendroium Phalaenopsis that has a small kieki at the top of the cane. It has one root about an inch long and 2 nubs that have not developed. The cane is turning brown and getting soft from the bottom up, I know it is dying. My question is should I keep the kieki on the cane hoping it will grow more roots, or should I take it off and pot it up hoping the one root will keep it alive until it grows more roots. I'm afraid when the brown gets to the top, the kieki will also die. I put KLN on the roots once or twice a week, and spray the leaves with orchid fertilizer spray about twice a month. Those darn roots are just not responding, and I don't think they are getting any help from Mom
