Default Dendrobium kieki

I have a Dendrobium Phalaenopsis with a small kieki at the top of a cane. The kieki has one root about 1 inch long and 2 nubs that have not yet developed. The cane is turning brown and getting soft. The kieki roots have not changed in about 3 months. I don't know if I should leave it on the dying cane and hope it develops more roots or if I should remove it before it dies with the cane, and pot it up and hope the one root will keep it alive until more roots develop. Anyone have any experience with such or any advice ? I have used KLN on it about once or twice a week, and also have orchid fertilizer spray that I have been using on the leaves about twice a month, but those darn roots are just not responding

Is the whole plant dying or just the one cane? I would think if the cane is brown and soft where it connects to the keiki I would remove it so it doesn't spread. Have you treated your plant with a bacterial prevention?
If you do pot it make sure it is a very small pot so the root doesn't rot.

The whole plant consists of one small very old cane and the one cane that was green, but is turning brown from the bottom up. It's about half way now.

I would cut through that cane with green. Cut 1 or 2 inches above where it is black then put cinnamon where you cut. Then you could pot or mist the roots. That way the keiki still feels attached. I would also treat with Bayer 3 in 1.
