I spent one summer with friends in Edmonton, and it was great! the climate was just like American Rockys.
The day was sooooo long and I often forgot how late I was out. I'm sure the winter is like hell and long night, though. lol.

We are a little out north of Edmonton, and the summer [this year at least ] was great! Light till 10:30 pm, and early sunrises too

Now, it gets dark at 7:30 and pretty chilly nights. Good for the cyms and nobiles
