You most definitely are completely ignorant about the judging program. Nobody abuses anyone. If they abused me I have no hesitation about abusing back, but contrary to your pronouncement AOS judges are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
We judge because we want to and have fun doing it. We pay our own expenses because we love looking at orchids and dealing with orchid people. When we are lucky enough to give programs we nearly always donate any money to AOS. or to our Judging Center. The centers are completely financially independent of AOS. We receive no AOS funding so we work to support ourselves.
It just amazes me that you yak about things you know nothing about, fault things that you have completely wrong about, and criticize people who are doing what they want to do. It is not your business what I do and the conditions under which I agree to do it.
Judging is great fun and judges are great people. They are my best friends. And yes I am one so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

HA! Molly is back claiming to be an AOS judge....hiding under an assumed name scared to be found out of his true evil self....and judging by the number of your infactions for quarreling and insulting other members here.....you and Katrina should go back to whence you belong for being up to no good as usual....

Wow, just wow. So many wrong comments in your reply, it is hard to find a place to start.
I guess you have never "volunteered" in any group that holds your interest.
It does not take 10 years to be a judge, not even half of that. Volunteers actually volunteer to do something because they love it.
Judges do not have to go to every AOS function......unless they want. You volunteer to go because it is a hobby but it is definitely not required.
I don't understand what your comment about "kowtowing and scrutiny" even mean unless you are attempting to say there are rules and the experienced judges comment on your judging ability.
Judges DO NOT have to sell orchids when they voluntarily accept a speaking engagement. Many judges who volunteer to provide a program to a club, actually have the speaking fee donated to AOS. If the club is just starting out and cannot afford the fee, many judges volunteer to devote their time, energy and no fee to help the club get up and running.
As someone who is married to a judge, no one has ever attempted to use and abuse his time and the effort he puts in. It is after all, just volunteering to do something you love to do in a great hobby.
I must admit my ignorance and not knowing the RHS had been studying orchids for the last 2000 years.
There was no hardship and unkindness on the other forum until you made statements like the one above and constantly wanted to take issue with wrong plant tags and why you didn't think anyone could tell you the plant you had was actually something else. You have mellowed over here.
I think the plant you have is actually a Den. primulinum and am surprised it is blooming this late in the season.

Brooke, as a wife of an AOS judge you should know that Dendrobium premulinum blooms from winter to summer....
And as I have told you all....it is merely my own personal opinion....now if you take my word for it and believe it....then you have no mind of your own.
RHS was founded by Prince Albert the consort husband of Queen Victoria....and they have the monopoly of registering orchids and their hybrids since the 1800's....and they can afford to pay salaries to their staff and judges unlike the AOS who have been in business for quite sometime and does not pay their judges even if they accumulate money from its members via magazine subscriptions.
Who said I mellowed????!!! I am a kindred spirit but I will fight you to the death if you ever bully me.
I never gave you cause, Brooke=in fact I admired your orchids and looked up to you as a senior orchid grower(but now I know that most of your orchid plants posted were cared for by your AOS judge of a husband so now your growing skill is dubious)....little did I know you had a grudge and an axe to grind against me.

Let me be clear, I have no grudge against you. On the other forum and on this forum I have tried to temper your flair ups with the truth. Your unbelievable hatred of the AOS is again on display. When you say things like the above, you are introducing new Board members to your version of what the AOS is about and you are totally wrong.
Ignore the AOS. You don't like it, don't approve of it but why use your fabrications of something that isn't true to try to sway newer growers to your misperception of the organization.. When you posted in a thread that had zero to do with the AOS, shows your contempt for the AOS, that is petty. Why do you care if the organization uses volunteers - the AOS is not supported by any of your dollars.
I went line by line to refute your illogical and incorrect post. No one should be permitted to post totally wrong statements and not have someone refute them.
The 1800's is not 2000 years ago, per your post.
Feel free to call your plant premulinum but there is no Den with that name. It is probably primulinum and yes I grow it and yes I know when it blooms.

tell the truth Brooke, did you or did your husband grow the orchid you just posted?
you are right....I don't know why my tag is 'premulinum' when IOSPE spells it as 'primulinum'....but you need not go about it as if its a great affront to your sensibilities....an extra zero is really absurd since RHS was founded on 7 March 1804; 210 years ago...instead of 2000 years its only two hundred years and ten....yet you could have corrected me in a manner befitting your stature as a wife of an AOS judge!

Bud......take it easy. You have taken the bait and are on a hiding to nowhere. I have noticed that you ignored comments in the past, you should keep to that policy going forward.

Gorgeous plant, Bud! I only have a few dendrobiums in my collection because they grow beautifully for me, but they don't flower for me.

Insults, disparaging remarks towards and about others are not acceptable; those doing so will receive infractions, possible temporary bans!

Thank You nikkik!
Try giving then cool temperatures in the evenings and if they need dry winter rest you must discover if it is a really drastic withholding of water or just water them every other week.

When I have read posts in this thread, it seemed to me that others were not trying to bait you, but just stating why they disagreed.
You have your opinion of the AOS and how it is run, which is fine, but please don't personally insult others for disagreeing. And those disagreeing also should not resort to personal insults.
If you (or anyone) feels you are being baited, please do not reply in kind. Be the bigger person. You can reply calmly, rationally; ignore the post if it doesn't deserve your response; report the post. Please also consider that how you are "reading" another's post, may not have been how it was intended. I am pretty sure I have saved myself some grief by giving others the benefit of a doubt when at all possible.
This of course goes for everyone, and all topics. Disagreement / difference of opinion is fine. Personal insults are not.
When passions are running high, I'd suggest stepping away for a bit before posting - proofread your post a bit later when you feel calmer. I promise, the board will still be here
Thank you all for reading, and your cooperation in this matter!
