Default Dendrobium cucmenabuy info?

Hi all--

Just bought this today from an MVOS member and can't find any info on it. I did get information indicating intermediate conditions, cattleya light levels, and plenty of water from the grower, but haven't had much luck with an internet search under this name.

So, figured that I'd ask the orchid wizzes on here and see if anyone can help.

Thanks in advance!

Catherine

Thanks! Hadn't though of that possibility--I tried various phonetic spellings of cucmenabuy (and it's a clearly printed tag, so I'm not wading through faded or illegible letters). I'll see if pix match what I have.....

There is no orchid that goes by the name "Dendrobium cucmenabuy".

It most likely is Dendrobium cucumerinum, (aka Dockrillia cucumerina).

If the leaves are fleshy and look like tiny cucumbers, then it is what DeaC and I have mentioned it might be.

Dockrillia cucumerina carries the species name "cucumerina" because the leaves resemble a very small cucumber.

Grows on trees without moss on them.

Hi Catherine, I have this plant: Dendrobium (Dockrillia) cucumerinum. It comes from Australia. Mine is mounted. It is a small plant and does look like little cucumber. I bought it for its unusual form. But was saddened to fund out its flowers are odiferous. If you a chance, post a picture. I am away on vacation but when I get home, I'll post a picture of mine, so we can match my plant with your plant and get a good identification.

Matt -- Mine hasn't bloomed yet this year but last year's blooms didn't stink. As a matter of fact, I don't recall any fragrance or odor of any kind. ?? Maybe it's there is you stick your nose in the flowers?

I can't wait for my plant to bloom to experience its stinky self! LOL. Katrina, this is my one and only supposedly stinky orchid I own--even my one and only bulbophylum--which are predominantly stinky plants--is a pleasant fragrant flower. I wish I can remember where I read that this plant's flowers are stinky.

Hi all--

Well, it's not a cucumerinum. This "mystery den" has very tall, very thin pseudobulbs and is the better part of 2 feet tall. I buoght it out of bloom, but the dried spikes on it appear to come primarily from the ends of the canes or from the first few nodes at the top and are about 4" long. Roots are quite fine, and it also produces keikis freely.

I hope to be able to post a picture of it late today or tomorrow....

Okay! Good you eliminated that potential identifier. The way you describe your plant it sounds like one of these Dendrobium phals? But certainly a picture will help.

I have a few Den phals, and it's not them either--far more delicate and graceful growth habit, much smaller leaves, and so on. Almost reminds me of bamboo.....

I'll get a pic up hopefully Monday.
