Wow, did a google images search, and Den. crumenatum certainly matches the growth habit. If not that species, maybe another one in that section?

Thanks for the info!

Your description and the mistaken spelling of the name reminds me of Dendrobium cinnbarinum if it isn't Den crumenatum.

This orchid has thin, ribbed pseudobulbs closer to the bottom of each growth. The top portion of the growth is very long and thin, like a bamboo or a reed. Leaves are thin, soft, narrow, and end in a point.

Flowers are brick red on the outer portions of the flower, and cream towards the center, with crimson flecks radiating out from towards the center.

It comes from Malaysia and parts of Indonesia. This species loves moisture, and is pretty difficult to grow in bark here in SoCal.

Does this look familiar?

Dendrobium cinnabarinum

Hi Philip--

Thank you for continuing to help with this orchid! I took a look at the info you supplied on Den. cinnabarinum and the leaves on mine are not anywhere near as long or pointed. Definitely a more rounded tip and waxier finish to them. Den. crumenatum is probably the best fit until I see it in bloom.

Of course, now I want to get a cinnabarinum, too. Sigh.

Hi all--

My mystery Den bloomed and it's definitely a crumenatum. Very pretty little white flowers about a week and a half after some stormy weather that lasted for a couple of days.

Thanks for all your help (and some ideas for new plants)!

Catherine
