Den wasselli -- an Aussie den that took several years to really take off. I got this as a NBS plant in '08 and it's been growing well but it's only been blooming the past couple of years. Slow grower at first but once it gets going it increases in size a bit faster. I wasn't sure if I would ever get it to bloom but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it.
VERY high light...lots of water during the warmer months and pretty dry during the winter. In the summer is gets a lot of direct sun...even in the middle of the day...lots of water. In the winter it sits in one of my highest light areas and it's very warm when the lights are on and very dry. It's not a no water at all orchid...just a lot less in the winter.
Den hercoglossum -- one of my favorite dens. Another one I've had since '08...I got it as a NBS seedling. Bright light...lots of water during the active months and less in the winter. Like some other dens this one is deciduous BUT it holds it's leaves for 2 yrs rather than the usual 1 yr. This one blooms over and over again on old canes but will only bloom on canes that are at least 1yr old. Grows like a weed if it's happy and it's a very reliable bloomer.
For size reference -- it's in a 6" clay pot. Not the best shot because the flowers are starting to fade...I should've taken pics a couple of weeks ago.
Last one...Den teretifolium -- another Aussie den and another one that's not the fastest grower in the world. Bright light...lots of water in the summer -- less in winter.
