den nobile type "to my kids" question
So this is my first year with my mobile type post winter sleep. It has 2 growths about 1.5 inches high and numerous leaves and about 8 other growths coming in and 15-20 small roots. It is mounted and I lightly mist it each morning....my question is what happens to the old cane after it finishes growing the new leads? Does it slowly die off? Should I just leave it alone, it looks funny to me with it being so tall and these little growths at the base.

This D. nobile type will bloom on old canes, even years old, so leave them alone until they turn to a very, very shriveled mid-brown that look about like an old hickory cane, then they can be safely removed... lol.

Yes, northern hemisphere should be feeding and watering now on a regular schedule until about Halloween, then the winter rest starts.

Not sure what you mean by this.
Are you referring to shoots or roots?

I mean with my catasetums wait at least 3 inches (I try closer 4-5 with roots) or more before watering etc.. I think I had my den. Written down the same way so I was confused. I really need to get all my notes re found they may be buried under my desk full of text books and notes from the spring semester.

Dendrobiums don't go by how Catasetums are grown.
If you withheld water to a growing Dendrobium shoot until it is at least 3 inches tall, and if it gets dehydrated badly enough, it will look disfigured or drop leaves.
Just water them when you start seeing growth. They're not the same as Catasetums.

Thanks @ King Of Orchid Growing, I have been spraYing at the roots w water and a small amount of feed. I have been scared of rotting them or watering them to soon. Now I know just be careful and it will all work out. Thanks both of you!

Yeah, no problem.
Just drench the plant, and water when it's completely dry.
