Dendrobium unicum Male
Default Dendrobium unicum

Dendrobium unicum blooms for the first time at my balcony, I love the color of these blooms, and they are so large in comparison with plant size. I did provide this one full winter rest, not watered since December except rain, no fertilizer till new growths appear in March. There is still more nobs showing up so will see:-) Another 2 buds are about to open:-)

Wonderful!

No watering except rain. What sort of rain levels do you get there. Here winter is usually quite wet, it rains frequently all winter. Is it similar there? (I'm still working out winter rest for various plants so just interested).

Rosie NOOOO, this is the thing, we are pretty much tropical climate, so winter is DRY SEASON here in Florida, like Dendrobium has in nature, it is very dry, and rains maybe once or twice a month, so my Dendrobiums that are deciduous get really tiny bit of water or no water at all for some 3 months. Your English rainy winter would not work, you must provide dry winter rest to deciduous Dendrobiums for them to bloom (and not to grow keikis). Hope this helps.

Wow! nice flower. This is the dendrobium which I want to see in my collection. I tried to buy this one since 4 years. But in India no nursery could give me this plant. So don't mind, I am jealous to see yours.

Lovely flower. Your petals are very dark orange while my flowers are lighter. It smells like crayons.
