Default Dendrobium Jan Orinstein 'Red and White'

This is a hybrid of Den. aphyllum and Den. primulinum. The contrasting color of the dark pink petals and sepals against the white lip makes the flowers very attractive. This clone came from Japan. The plant blooms later than Den. anosmum. I'm not sure how the varietal name was derived because the petals and sepals are dark pink, not red.

Have to agree both that the clonal name makes no sense -- assuming that it was named for the color of the flowers -- and that the blooms are beautiful!

Brenda, many dendrobiums are naturally pendant growers. It is only because we humans tend to "insist" on having pots sitting on a floor or sill and forcing the canes to stand upright (generally requiring staking) that even pendant growers are typically seen growing upwards in home culture. In this case, Mel appears to be accommodating the normal growth habit of this den ... most likely having it in a hanging pot or basket and allowing the canes to drape downwards as is their wont.
