Dendrobium aggregatum: Is This a Spike? Male
Default Dendrobium aggregatum: Is This a Spike?

I just noticed this on my rescue D. aggregatum. I got it from Lowe's last spring as a rescue, and have seriously contemplated tossing it due to it going even further downhill after I got it. But this looks like a spike to me. It's the little reddish brown thing about dead center of the pic, emerging about halfway up the p-bulb. Any thoughts?

It is either a spike or a keiki - too little for me to really see what it is.

Thanks Brooke! The more I look at it the more I think it is a spike. Or maybe the more I want it to be! It has the look of a Phal spike, so hopefully I'm right.

I know the feeling Whenever I see something like this, I usually wave it off and go like "Nah probably just another keiki"...but secretly hoping it's a spike!

That way I don't get my hopes up too high I suppose?

So no, that does not look like a flower spike! (but I secretly hope it is)

Don't give up on it, whatever it is it's doing something.
It must be responding to your care
(FYI - looks like a spike to me)

I can't tell. Here is a picture of mine showing the emergence point of the spike. Just in case, Den. aggregatum is one of those hard dry rest species.

How do you care for this orchid? I recently bought one that I thought had just finished blooming because there was an old dry flower spike on it but after a few days I noticed it had about 5 new spikes emerging. I've been keeping it in me terrarium with high humidity 60-80% and temps between (day) 75F and (night) 63F. It's mounted so I water it daily.
Any suggestions on care and blooming?
