spectabile Potting Question

I bought this at the show this year,and am puzzled as to its medium needs. It came in a small pot, loosely in spahgnum moss. The flowers have faded, [no problem], but my question is...should I be repotting into a bark mix? The few dens I have, are all in bark, and seem very happy with this .

Any advice is appreciated

I saw those and almost bought one. OrchidWiz says any open free draining potting media. It also says some growers say it does well in roomy tree fern pots. I doubt tree fern pots are easily come by here tho.

Thanks so much for the reply I have some medium, and fine bark. I might mix a little and pot it when it shows signs of growth

These shouldn't dry out completely, so bear that in mind when choosing media. I have my spectabile seedling in chc mix. My other Latouria Dens are in a combination of pumice and perlite. My spectabile seedling had previously been in the same, but needed to be watered very frequently in summer that way. I have read that Latourias don't like their roots disturbed, which is probably why they are often potted in inorganic material - but I don't know how true that may be.

I haven't tried Latouria Dens in bark, tho I would imagine that should be fine. I'd probably lean towards fine bark, add some extra perlite and/or pumice (or small pieces of lava rock) for added drainage.

Orchid Wiz also said it can be re-potted any time there is new root growth. It sounds like not too fussy of a plant. It did mention that it won't bloom in temperate climates like Singapore, indicating it seems to need a slightly cooler and drier winter to initiate bloom. Hope that helps.
