I feed them at least once a week. The orchid specialist grower says he feeds his orchids at the nursery alternate weeks w gaviota growth and gaviota flowering. The dens like lots of sunlight i find. They grow quickly if u do that. My minis have been doing ok but haven't bloomed yet. Also I find those with canes sometimes go through dormancy. Depending on which plant. They can lose all their leaves and come back after a hot dry spell when it rains here w lots of leaves and then it will bloom. Adding a few more of the unusual ones on the balcony here. First is a den eliotianum. Then a den pseudo lamellatum and a den aff judithae. I don't know enuf about classification.. Still learning. But got them all from a collector enthusiast.

I have another lot of orchids growing at then back of the house in the outdoors. Shaded by large vine flowering plants. This is a den species Maluku from the Indonesian Maluku Islands.

Second pix shows part of the collection under the shaded vine. And the third shows the context. I also have some which are not under so much shade. The bracteosum and others.

Debrasoon, I think we share similar tastes in Dendrobium. I like all of these you've shown here. The middle photo shows three Denrobium that look very similar to mine--Den. anceps, Den. flexile, and Den. reflexitpalum.

Heh heh. Yes. I don't like the large commercial variety. Though I got myself a chrysotuxum. Will share my list w you when I get to my IPad. Here is a cadetia Irian jaya species. Really small. Not sure if bulbo or den family. . The flower is less than a cm across.

Formidable list! This is a list of your plants? I'm impressed. Some on the list are available here in the USA. I wish there was a nursery here that specialized in Dendrobium of these kinds versus the more commercially attractive Dendrobium like the tall canes. Not that there is anything wrong with these Dendrobiums. I just don't have the room and the environment to care for the larger Dendrobium.

I don't have room anymore as u can imagine. Most of them I got from two suppliers here. One is Song Orchids, a commercial grower and the rest of the rarer dens from this guy who has a small plot behind Song, and he's basically a collector who sells cuttings n plants to feed his obsession. Nice young chap. Everytime I visit one, I visit the other. Which makes them very costly trips.

Debra, who is the guy behind Song?
Btw, Song is not a grower, the boss brought in most of their orchids as well. The ones that he grows are the ones endemic to our climate. Have to be careful, the more exotic/rare ones won't bloom easily in our climate. That's why his orchids are so expensive.
