Hi Debra, I think Bulbo culture is closer to our Dendrobium culture...so that might not be as risky as buying something like this Sophronopsis that requires cooler temperatures in the winter time than what your environment would 'naturally' provide--unless of course you have the wherewithall to cover refrigeration services!!

FWIW I was having issues with my jenkinsii and in his opinion it should be given a milder winter rest than aggregatum. I was giving it a hard winter rest and it struggled big time.
Also, if you like small/compact check out Den. atroviolacium 'Pigmy'. It's a small evergreen bushy Den with crazy looking flowers. Den. cuthbertsonii might do well for you as it prefers cooler temps. It's teeny.

Hi Terri! Thanks for the suggestion to check out H&R Orchids in Hawaii. I downloaded their list and WOW! They have a lot of really good prices for orchids--not just Dendrobium. I'm trying to figure out what next large plant I can give to an appreciative orchid grower to make room for my H&R order

My orchid society had a display at last year's MAOC in Dayton, OH, so we will probably do another display. We won third place or second place, we got a slab of glass award. It went to our president--she loves getting awards!
I bought a lot of plants from that show last year--in fact that is where I noticed miniature Dendrobium for the first time--Andy's Orchids, Equagenera, etc. where there and they had several really small Dendrobium for sale. I bought this small Dendrobium burana 'Magic Beans' plant from Ten Shin. When I got it home, it progressively lost every single leaf. I thought it was dead, but the canes remained green. It stayed like that until about a month ago when it started producing new growth. I'll take a picture of it when I get home.

My Dendrobium prenticei arrived today. I put it up next to my Dendrobium lichenastrum. Being facetious, I can see how people can mix up these two plants.

I know, I know. I never said I agreed w/the lumping. I believe it's got more to do w/the flower than the leaves? Maybe? I don't get it...but then again, I don't understand all the movement w/in the cattleya/laelia groups either.
People far smarter than I am (or will ever be!) are doing all this moving about of the genus/genera...I'm just along for the ride. Even if it sometimes feels like the drivers are lost.

Thanks Debra, I thought this would be larger than my licenastrum. I really like these Dendrobium, even if Katrina says they are one in the same!!! Just kidding Katrina!
All these name changes often confuses me. I still refer to my Neofinetia as Neofinetia. The vendors don't help any. These two plants came from the same vendor. He charged less for the prenticei.

My favorite Laelia Rupicolous orchid vender, cschaz, is branching out and selling other types of orchids. Here is a Dendrobium schoeninum. He also called it 'Dockarila'.
I liked the way it looked and when I got it yesterday, I decided this one might be a good candidate for mounting. If you grow this one, would you put it on a mount?
