Default Dendrobium hancockii

This specie looks like the Dendrobium Hainanensis, but they are quite different because Den. Hancockii has thicker stems and has a more yellow, almost orange color flower and Den. Hainanensis has black canes. This marvelous ground orchid is endemic throughout Southern China but has become very collectible for 2 special reasons -- it combines the looks of a bamboo with the golden flowers of an orchid and what is more exciting = the flowers have a strong aromatic scent similar to honey. It is also known to have medical properties(but that is another topic). This specie can grow up to 5 feet tall and my plant is fast forming into a wonderful bamboo like thicket specimen.

I give this orchid plant a culture of cool to warm temperatures with medium bright light on the east facing kitchen window. I keep it on high humidity with the aid of electric humidifier with oscillating fan and water it evenly moist and feed it weekly weakly k-lite fertilizer with seaweed mix during the growing warm season. I reduce watering to every 10 days during the winter until new shoots appear. I potted this in a well-draining mix of medium fir bark, lava rock, coco chips, charcoal, sponge rock and hydroton.
I have to put the pot inside a heavy stoneware cachepot so it won’t topple down.

Very cool plant, Bud! I killed one of these a few years back and haven't yet re-attempted.

Thanks for the kind words, Tommy !

Right, the different shades of brown especially on the new basal growths.... the keikis on the tips of the canes are also branching out. I will cut it when they have roots long enough.
